Power Band Shoulder Stretches

The powerband has been largely popularised for stretching by USA physiotherapist Kelly Starrett who has written several popular books, is a crossfit coach and web blogger. Check out his Mobility Wod blog here.

Below are some examples of how I would incorporate the powerband into ones shoulder stretching and mobility routine.  Before you try this, should you currently have a shoulder injury, please chat to your osteopath, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, gp or chiropractor before trying them out.

Tips For Stretching

  • You should not feel pain, only a comfortable stretch.
  • Hold the stretch for 30-60 seconds.
  • Repeat the stretching 2-3 times on each side.
  • Engage the stretch slowly.
