Lunge With Reach
In the video below osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrates how you can either increase or decrease hip work in the lateral lunge through varying his hand reach.
The lateral lunge is a great exercise as it trains the hip complex in the frontal plane and really loads up the gluteals and adductors. When reaching towards the ground level, this requires the individual to flex through the hips more, therefore requiring the hips to load and explode out of this movement. By reaching above head, we look to reduce the degree of hip flexion and therefore places more work towards the knee and foot/ankle complext.
