Dr Abbas Din Osteopath has recently joined Principle Four Osteopathy and has a special interest in Dry Needling and Electro Dry Needling. Dry Needling is where acupuncture needles are placed into the body for the treatment of trigger points within the muscles. Dry needling is commonly used for the treatment of trigger points in the neck and shoulders, back, glutes and upper and lower limbs. It is also commonly used for the treatment of tendinopathies such as tennis elbow and golfers elbow.
To read more about dry needling and its benefits, please check out the research fact sheets from the British Acupuncture Council. Click here.
Electro Dry Needling is different to dry needling in that electric pulses are transmitted through the needles via a machine.
Research has shown that Electroacupuncture/Needling can be useful for the following conditions:
- Fibromyalgia http://www.bmj.com/content/305/6864/1249
- Chronic pain http://www.pafmj.org/showdetails.php?id=9&t=r
It is also commonly used within the treatment for back pain and other musculoskeletal injuries.
