Bilateral and Single Leg Lower Body Strength Exercises

When programming for the lower body I will always try to incorporate a bilateral stance squat and hinge pattern as well as a split stance and single leg focused exercises.  Split stance could include split squat, lunge variations and single leg focus could incorporate single leg squat, step up or single leg RDL.  In this image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a box squat and single leg squat to box.  These exercises have been prescribed as the client is returning to running following anterior knee pain.  There are many different exercises that would suit this worker, but we aimed for these because we wanted to reduce anterior knee load with the box squat and also wanted to focus on a more hip dominant single leg squat pattern.
