The exercise world seems to go around in circles, firstly with many individuals traditionally keeping fit by carrying out manual activities and playing sports. The popularity of bodybuilding then transformed training in the gym environment by creating a lot of isolated exercise machines i.e. Leg extension, Hamstring curls etc. Now we are seeing a change back to more functional based activities using the likes of power bags, TRX suspension training systems, kettlebeels, ViPR, rope training, tyre lifting, mace training and sledgehammer training.

Principle Four Osteopathy has recently acquired the sledgehammer, which replicates that of the real thing. Sledgehammers come in a variety of weights 5kg, 10kg and 15kg and can be used to train various movements (and therefore many muscles and joints) of the body.

Check out some examples of its use in the following YouTube videos
