Just a quick update on the Rocktape seminar that I attended today.  The course was run in Braeside and looked at the application of Rocktape for lower limb injuries.  Conditions covered included:

  • Plantarfasciitis
  • Achilles Tendinitis
  • Calf Strains
  • Shin Splints
  • Anterior Knee Pain
  • Lateral Ankle Sprains
  • Quad and Hamstring Strains
  • Techniques to reduce swelling and oedema in and around the lower limb

Traditional rigid tape is applied to provide stability and/or prevent movement to an injured area.  It can also be applied to have a mechanical effect on a tissue which may be involved with the specific injury.  Rocktape is an elastic tape that is works by decompressing the area (it has a pulling up effect when applied to the tissue correctly).  The idea behind Rocktape application is that it can help reduce pain and inflammation and improve proprioceptive feedback to the area.  Generally speaking, it isn’t applied to provide a stability effect like rigid tape.   Rocktape comes in both 5cm and 10cm thickness and its uses are not just confined to musculoskeletal injuries and can be used for power and performance application.

Check out some of the videos below that cover techniques covered today.
