Recently I completed the Neil Asher Technique Master Course which was created by Osteopath Neil Asher in the UK in 1999. The Neil Asher Technique gives the practitioner a treatment and management strategy towards helping clients with Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis). Frozen Shoulder is a condition characterized by 3 distinct phases. Phase 1 is the freezing stage where clients start to develop pain in their shoulder and reduced range of movement. Phase 2 is known as the frozen stage where clients have minimal shoulder movement. Phase 3 is the thawing stage where clients start to gain more range of movement in the shoulder. Each stage can last anywhere between 3-12 months long. Hands on manual therapy techniques involve soft tissue massage, pressure point/inhibition techniques and mobilisation. In some cases, clients will also benefit from a corticosteroid injection into the shoulder or a hydrodilatation.
