The concept of arc movements was first taught to me by physiotherapist Wayne Rogers who describes there as being an open arc (arm moves away from the midline) and a closed arc (arm moves towards the midline). An arc movement can be performed through a partial range of motion or full range of motion.
In the videos below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing single and double arm open arc with a dumbbell and integrated with a squat and lateral lunge. Both of these exercises are biased towards loading the upper body, but essentially the whole body is moving and being integrated into the exercise.
If you would like to find out more about how you can integrate arc movements into your training and whether it is appropriate for you, touch base with us at the clinic via email (info@principle4.com).
