I am a big believer in adding both bilateral and single leg or split stance exercises into your training program to train all the common stances and postures that we often find ourselves in on a day to day basis. The split stance or single leg stance is also a great assessment tool to assess your own balance, mobility and stability. By performing the movement on both sides o the body you self check all of these factors to identify where you might need to focus your training.
