The split kneeling single arm cable pull down is a great exercise if you are looking to address any vertical pulling strength asymmetries between the left and right side. In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing this exercise whereby he is directly under the line of the attachment to ensure a true vertical pull pattern. The high cable attachment position also means he can put his lat on full stretch at the top phase of the movement. He has also incorporated a pronated to supinated active movement through the exercise, ending with a supinated hand position at the end of the concentric pull patter to maximise recruitment of the back in a naturally stronger position.
So if you are looking to do the following with your back training, then give it a go:
- Address asymmetry left to right
- Train full range of motion with the vertical pull
