Are You Progressing Your Core Exercises?
In the image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a plank with arm reach as well as 3 point birddog with knees elevated exercise. The client had been performing the plank and 4 point (knees elevated) exercises well and to progress this exercise we decided to remove one point of stability by raising one arm. This requires the individual to stabilise their body and look to reduce the rotation challenge that is brought about by only 3 points of contact. You can look to vary points of contact and alternating the arm reach and also foot reach. This is a great way to assess where there might be asymmetries by comparing one side to the other.
