Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift
In the image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a dumbbell romanian deadlift. This is a variation on the traditional romanian deadlift which involves the individual holding the barbell. The benefit of using a dumbbell is that the weight can be centred directly over ones base of support and kept as close to their centre of gravity as possible. For those individuals looking to add a romanian deadlift into their routine, often this variation is a great place to start to teach the movement pattern with some light load. The romanian deadlift is slightly different to the traditional deadlift as the individual is asked to perform the pattern with a partial bent knee (not locked stiff, but encouraging a more dominant hip hinge pattern) and therefore loads the gluteals and hamstrings.
