Seated Dumbbell Press – Scapular Plane – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating a seated dumbbell press in the scapular plane (30 degrees flexion).   There are number of benefits to performing this exercise in that the scapular plane often affords the greatest freedom of movement through the GH/Scapular for overhead pressing movements.  Sitting down requires one to adopt an upright supported posture and as a result reduces the likelihood of compensation through the body i.e. excessive lower back loading as well as limits ones ability to help drive movement up through the body from the feet that is commonly seen in a push press overhead press.
