The leg lift is a commonly used manual handling technique by many people.  The Leg Lift technique might be adopted when the worker needs to get low to the ground to pick up an object.  During the Leg Lift the worker typically bends at the knee and keeps their back relatively upright.  This type of technique is often not suitable for those individuals who have knee issues or are required to lift objects off the ground frequently.

Tips When Performing The Leg Lift Manual Handling Technique

  • Get close to the object (but not over it).
  • Bend at the knee and drop down.
  • Keep the trunk relatively upright.
  • Ensure you have a good grip on the object before picking it up.
  • Ensure you have planned your lift before picking up the object.
  • Know what the object is that you are picking up and be sure to only lift within your own limits.
