Barbell Overhead Press – Building Overhead Strength
The barbell overhead press (military press) is one of my favourite exercises for building strength overhead. It is a staple in my training program (with bench press, pull ups, squats, deadlifts, lunges and step ups). If you could only train a limited number of movements, then this would be one that I would include in the training program. Depending on your training goals, a good overhead press for strength will be about 1* bodyweight (https://bretcontreras.com/impressive-strength-levels/). I am still 20 kg off from this, but one of my training goals for 2017 is to achieve this as well as a 40kg kettlebell overhead press (currently at 32kg).
