Wide Grip Bent Over Row

The Bent Over Row is a great exercise to incorporate into ones training program if you are wanting to build back strength. The bent over row involves the individual having to hinge at the hips, maintain a straight spine and pull the barbell up towards their chest to engage the back muscles.

In the video below we see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a wide grip bent over row.  Ideally this exercise should be performed where the individual will pull the bar up to touch their chest.  A lateral view of this exercise should show the individual maintaining a straight spine and hinging at the hips.  Therefore the individual is also required to brace their trunk and stabilise in order to hold this position.

This exercise can be performed with a variety of grips, ranging from pronated as demonstrated by osteopath Heath Williams or supinated (palms up).  The individuals grip width can also vary and it is suggested that you vary your grip regularly in order to train variety through the pulling movement.
