Wall Supported Dumbbell External Rotation @ 90 Degrees – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a wall supported dumbbell external rotation exercise.  The wall has been used to assist with feedback for shoulder and elbow positioning in this exercise.   A free standing external rotation exercise is often more challenging because one must look to maintain relatively still elbows as they perform the exercise compared to a wall or perhaps seated with arm on a table single arm dumbbell external rotation exercise.  Usually I will perform and prescribe external rotation exercises with the arm by side (0 degrees) before progressing through the ranges to 90 degrees with an aim to build strength endurance 15-20 repetitions for multiple sets rather than heavy loads for less reps.
