Wall Scapular Press – Strengthening Your Shoulder Girdle

In the videos below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a closed chain (hands on wall) scapular press.  This is a great exercise to include in the early stages of rehab for the upper limb as there is limited load through the shoulder girdle.  The hands on wall placement creates a closed chain exercise that allows one to pack the shoulder safely.  When performing this I have the client actively retract and drop the shoulder girdle to help stabilise the shoulder girdle.  They are then required to maintain a straight arm position and let themselves actively move their torso towards the wall and then push away, being sure to limit spine movement so that the shoulders are having to perform this exercise. In video 1 you will see a bilateral scapular press and then progression to a single arm scapular press.
