Are You Using Micro Pause and Workpace Break?

A Micro pause is a short break in work.  Typically this could mean a 10 second pause from the use of the mouse or from typing.  It is suggested that workers take a micro pause every 5 minutes.  For workers who are performing highly repetitive tasks such as typing and mouse clicking, it might mean you need to take a micro pause more often to reduce your risk of developing musculoskeletal strains and sprains.

A Workpace break is an actual break from the workstation.  This can be a 5-10 minute break away from the workstation and should be conducted every 45-55 minutes.  Not only will this break give you an opportunity to get up and move the body, it will also provide a mental break from the work being performed.

Micro pauses and workplace breaks are essential in helping you reduce your risk of developing musculoskeletal strains and sprains.  Some companies we have worked with have installed computer programs such as Wellnomics and RSI guard to help prompt these breaks.  For others we have suggested they download an iPhone application such as office break or break so that the worker can set a break reminder.  It can also be as simple as setting an alarm on your outlook.  We would suggest you adopt one of these programs or strategies to help you break prolonged static sitting postures.
