Using External Cues To Improve Technique – The Hip Bridge

In the image below you will see an example of a foam roller hip bridge that also involves the use of several foam blocks to provide external feedback to the client so that they are able to focus on controlling their knees (limiting movement side to side in the frontal plane) throughout the hip bridge.  This is just one of a number of different strategies that could be used to help the individual focus on their technique.  When it comes to deciding what type of feedback can be utilized, this is often a case by case decision and will depend on how the individual learns and responds.  Typically I will employ a number of different strategies as having the client observe and listen to their own body (internal cues) versus external cue options (verbal, tactile or visual).
