Unloaded and Loaded Duck Walks

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing unloaded and loaded duck walks.  The duck walk is a great assessment and training tool because it requires mobility and strength through each joint of the lower body and can be used to screen for general lower limb mobility deficits.  The biggest challenge I had with this exercise was the quad burn from performing the duck walk which highlights either a lack of conditioning in this exercise in the quads or perhaps a need for other parts of the body to step up and help the quads out a bit.

For those individuals with known knee or hip issues i.e. cartilage, ligament, arthritic complaints, please consult your health practitioner before trying these as the duck walk demands movement in end range flexion positions.
