Understanding Your Client

At Principle Four Osteopathy we are big believers in understanding what your client does on a day to day basis (be it work, lifestyle or sport).  Even more so when that activity is being impacted by a musculoskeletal complaint.   When and where possible we like to observe what it is you do, be it work, training or performing to gain insight into the demands of that activity, physical requirements and how it is important. This provides greater context to the situation and therefore may allow us to tweak and alter your treatment and management plan accordingly so that you can get back to doing what you love most or keep moving.  In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a heavy barbell back squat in preparation for a powerlifting meet.  For those who aren’t familiar with powerlifting, if you had a client presenting to you with an injury and they explained they powerlift, then knowing the three powerlifts and how they are performed and understanding ones training program (including movement prep and recovery) is absolutely paramount. As these big units are pushing their body to the absolute limits through maximal lifts on the deadlift, bench and squat. Therefore, if you are currently seeing a practitioner for treatment, ask yourself, do they know what I do on a daily basis and understand how this relates to ones injury or goals.
