Have You Tried A Sit To Stand Workstation?

The Sit To Stand Workstation is starting to become more popular amongst many workplaces as they begin to realise the benefits of standing in the workplace.

Research into static prolonged sitting work postures has shown that workers may be at an increased risk to developing medical complaints like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  ComCare have published some very useful reports outlining the risks associated with prolonged sitting and how to improve activity in the workplace.  Please click on the links below to read more.

ComCare – The Dangers Of Prolonged Sitting

The Osteopaths at Principle Four Osteopathy are involved in many workplace ergonomic risk assessments within the Melbourne City CBD and Docklands area and are starting to see a trend of Sit to Stand Hot Desks and in some workplaces, sit to stand desks replacing the standard fixed height desk.

When we come across workplaces with sit to stand workstations, it is very important that workers are educated how to adjust the desk to heights that suit both sitting and standing postures.  One of the common issues we have seen with the implementation of these desks is that workers will often adjust the desk to an incorrect height that doesn’t support good seated or standing workstation postures.

Below is an image which gives a general description of how a desk should be adjusted to suit both sitting and standing workstation postures.
