Thoracic Spine Mobility Drill With Overhead Bar Hold

The following exercise was first shown to me by crossfit coach Andy Trinh of Vault Performance – Crossfit 224  in the Melbourne CBD.  It requires the individual to hold the bar overhead as they would in the overhead squat position, with the foam roller placed horizontally across the thoracic spine.  The individual should start with the hips high and slowly lower the hips to assist in creating extension through the thoracic spine.  The overhead squat hold position also means that one may be assisted with opening up through the chest and shoulder.    For those with anterior shoulder instability issues, please see your osteopath or physiotherapist before trying this exercise out.
