Escape Ergonomics visits Principle Four Osteopathy/Corporate Work Health Australia at our Melbourne office

This week we had the pleasure of having Escape Ergonomics attend our practice and discuss the benefits of the synchro ergonomic task chair for the typical worker in an office environment. Adam and Grant brought in a range of their chairs for us to trial and see how they compare against the traditional 3 lever ergonomic task chair and demonstrated how each of them worked and had us trial all 3 chair types.

The synchro office ergonomic task chair is different to the traditional 3 lever ergonomic task chair in that it has a dynamic moving base/back tilt that allows the individual to move whilst sitting. The user simply adjusts one of the levers to adjust the tension which results in the chair backrest/base being made easier or more difficult to adjust. The benefits of a synchro chair is that the worker can sit upright in a supported fashion when performing desk work such as typing and using the mouse, but when not in use, can then dynamically move in the chair, hence preventing workers from being in a static posture for prolonged periods of time that often increases ones risk of developing musculoskeletal strains and sprains.

The synchro chairs brought in by Escape Ergonomics were mesh back, material/foam bases that had weight capacity of 130-150kg that also had seat pan slide adjustment, back rest height or lumbar support adjustment, seat height and 3 or 4d adjustable arm rests. They looked very stylish and were extremely comfortable and suit the needs of 99% of the population.

At Principle Four Osteopathy/Corporate Work Health Australia, all of our osteopaths are trained in office workstation ergonomics and regularly undertake ergonomic assessments and training that focuses on education and injury prevention or in some cases, reactive to workers who are dealing with musculoskeletal complaints where their workstation set up may be contributing to the aggravation, maintenance or cause of their complaint.
