The Side Kick Exercise

This is a body weight movement that is commonly seen in exercise methods such as Zuu Training, Animal Flow and other bodyweight methods.  It is a great one for training mobility through the thoracic spine and hips as well as building strength and power through the hips and stability in the upper body.

When performing this exercise, start slowly and focus on keeping the hands on the floor and then literally moving or sliding your leg through. The grounded leg should be in a position where the foot is flat on the ground and the tibia is vertical to the ground to reduce torsion through the knee.  As you develop your technique in this exercise, you can play around with the speed of the movement so that you can start training speed and power.

If you would like to find out more about adding exercises like this into your everyday workout, be sure to contact Osteopath Heath Williams at Principle Four Osteopathy.
