In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a dumbbell push up followed up by a renegade row. What you will see also in this video is that he has placed a water bottle on his back to provide external feedback to assist in keeping the lower back stable during both movements (push and pull). One of the biggest challenges with this exercise is often keeping the pelvis and trunk stable (minimal rotation) and this requires both trunk/hip stability but also demands that the lower limb and grounded shoulders to stabilise.

What you will also see in this video is that on certain reps Heath is also not able to stabilise as well on one side of the upper body when performing the row (faster movement of the row). As with all exercises we can look at how the body performs the movement and handles stress/load and can be used to identify asymmetries to work on.
