The Glute Ham Raise

The Glute Ham Raise is one of my favourite accessory lower body exercises to perform because it requires the individual to maintain an neutral spine position whilst eccentrically lengthening through their hamstrings as they extend their hip and knee.  Generally most conventional training programs focus on the concentric phase for hamstring development and this excercise, along with the RDL, Goodmorning and Nordic curl all focus on the eccentric contraction.

In the video below we see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a glute ham raise at Elite Sports Performance in Spotswood, Melbourne.

Next time you are thinking about changing your program, be sure to introduce one of the exercises listed above.
