The Barbell Floor Press

The barbell floor press is a great accessory lift for training the chest or an alternative for those individuals who find that they aggravate the shoulders when performing a chest press that requires greater range of motion and loading through the shoulder joint.

In the video below we see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrate how to perform a barbell floor press. When performing this exercise, aim to keep the elbows in close to the body and bring the bar down towards to sternum.  When performing this exercise you should also focus on whether the elbows touch the ground at the same time. For variation, you can add in a pause and this requires the individual to generate movement from a stationary position.
