Static Shoulder Stretch

There are many ways to stretch the shoulders and often I will see a lack of prescription of stretching that focuses on building flexiblity/mobility through shoulder extension.  In the image below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a static stretch of the shoulders.

To perform this stretch, simply places your hands on the ground and then gentle creep your bottom further away from the hands until you feel a gentle stretch through the anterior shoulder region.  This stretch can be quite strong and for those who are particularly tight, I would suggest starting gradually.

This stretch can also be advanced by making it more dynamic.  Please keep a look out for future posts demonstrating this.
