Stability Assisted Bodyweight Squat With Band – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a stability assisted bodyweight squat (holding onto the column in front improves stability and allows them to drop deeper into a squat) with the use of the bands around the knees (the bands have been added as the individual has the tendency for their knees to move medial as they move in and out of the bottom phase of the squat).  The client has been asked to actively drop into the the squat, hold position actively and then actively move out of the squat.  The goal of this drill was to provide some feedback for the client with regards to their knees as they move towards the bottom phase of their squat and teach them to maintain lateral tension in the body.  The next progression would be to move to less stability (no holding of the column) and then removing the band after that.
