Squats | Hip Dominant Vs Hip/Knee Focused

There are many ways to perform a squat and I would argue there are no right or wrong ways, it all really depends!!!!  When it comes to squatting I like to think about what the goal is i.e. more posterior chain involvement (gluteal hamstring), then I will opt for a box squat (horizontal movement – more hip contribution than knee) compared to a more traditional vertical squat (more equal hip and knee involvement) that incorporates more quad involvement.  I also like to consider spine and shoulder mobility/stability and will prescribe according to ones presentation i.e. more vertical trunk position squats for those who may struggle with spinal issues.  Just some food for thought when it comes to squatting.
