Squat With Overhead Mobility Work – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a stability assisted bodyweight squat (hands at shoulder height moving to overhead as he lowers himself down).  Once in the bottom phase of the squat position with stability assisted overhead hand hold, he lifts one hand away from the bar for an short hold and then repeats the same on the opposite side.  The idea behind this drill is to work on overhead positioning (upper limb and thoracic spine) in the bottom phase of the squat position.  The next phase is to move to a no hands holding the bar at the bottom of the squat with the idea to work towards eventually moving to an overhead squat with light barbell.
