Split Kneeling Stance Face Pull Exercise

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a split kneeling stance face pull exercise.  This is a slight variation on the traditional standing cable face pull.  The face pull exercise itself is great for building upper and mid back strength as well as building strength into the shoulders and upper limbs.  In the split kneeling stance face pull one must also balance their weight with a narrow base of support (similar to a split lunge stance).  The grip focus is on a neutral grip position and the position of the cable attachment anchor point (high) reduces the effort compared to a lower cable attachment point.  Some of the common variations on a face pull include:

  • Stance i.e. seated, split kneeling, lunge stance, bilateral stance
  • Cable attachment anchor point i.e. high, mid point or low
  • Cable attachment i.e. cable rope and other various attachment belts
  • Load
  • Sets/Reps/Rest period
