Single Leg Glute Isometric Exercise – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a single leg glute isometric exercise.  This involves the individual standing near the wall with the outer leg locked straight and the wall side leg bent to 90 degrees and gently pushing into the wall.  This results in a contraction of the lateral hip muscles on the outer weight bearing leg.  This is a nice exercise for those wishing to engage the gluteals in a standing position.  One must aim to keep the pelvis and torso perpendicular to the wall and to maintain a level pelvis position.  You can start with several sets of short duration holds i.e. 10 seconds and progress their duration.
