Single Arm Kettlebell Squat – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a single arm kettlebell squat.  In this video he is squatting with a 40kg dumbbell which is a lot of load for him.  You will see that he has to work hard to try and counter the rotational pull of the offset kettlebell position.  This highlights both the effect that an asymmetrical kettlebell hold can create as well as highlights the fact that he is probably needing to drop the load slightly and build up further capacity before attempting this load for sets of 3-5 reps to build strength.  The kettlebell is a great tool because it allows you to train many conventional movements, but challenges the body differently to tools such as the barbell which offers a balanced symmetrical load.
