Single Arm Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift

The single arm dumbbell romanian deadlift is a great tool to use as part of assessing ones ability to control their trunk in the hip hinge pattern with load as well as to use as an adjunct to ones training.  Holding the dumbbell in only one hand whilst performing the romanian deadlift requires an ability to maintain hip and shoulder stability through the movement pattern.  In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams performing the single arm dumbbell romanian deadlift and his aim should be to perform it symmetrically in the sagittal, frontal and transverse plane.  What you see though is that his shoulder drops instead of maintaining it parallel with the other shoulder.

The single arm dumbbell romanian deadlift is useful for both assessing and training ones hip hinge pattern which focuses on developing hamstring and gluteal strength.
