Shoulder Movement Preparation Drill – Closed Chain Shoulder Exercise

I recently attended a workout with a mate of mine (Morgan White) of Free Form Practice (check them out on Instagram) and we were discussing different ways to prepare the shoulder girdle in a safe and controlled way that also challenged ones strength through range of motion.

The instagram video below is an example of this whereby you use your torso to mobilise and load the shoulder through different ranges of motion in a closed chain environment.  This exercise can be regressed or progressed by changing the depth, range and speed of movement.  In the video you will see osteopath Heath Williams demonstrate loading in the anterior (sagittal plane), rotational (transverse plane) and across the shoulder (frontal plane).
