Shoulder Mobiliser With A Sagittal Plane Focus

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating a sagittal plane biased shoulder mobiliser.  This is a great exercise that can be performed with or without an external load.  When performing this exercise without an external load, the focus can be placed on the hand to drive the movement through the shoulder girdle or the focus can be placed on the scapulothoracic/gh shoulder complex creating the movement.  Using gravity and ones upper limb can create a gentle and effective mobility exercise for ones shoulder.  The video below of osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy shows him using an external load (small dumbbell).  This allows him to create a loaded biomechanical reaction that requires him to control the weight through the motion.

When prescribing or trying this exercise out, please always allow the individual to self select their range of motion and speed before trying to alter these variables.

If you currently suffer from a shoulder complaint or would like to find out more information about exercising your shoulder, please contact us at Principle Four Osteopathy.
