Shoulder Girdle Assessment Strategies Again

When it comes to assessing the shoulder girdle we need to look at a number of key components, these being local biomechanics (range of motion/flexibility/mobility), isolated and integrated strength (specific muscles and movement patterns) and stability and control.

We also need to take this another step further to screen the cervical spine, tmj, distal upper limb structures such as the elbow, wrist and hand as well as the thoracic, lumbar spine and further afield from the pelvis down.

All of this is usuallly undertaken in our hour long initial consult that also includes a detailed case history as well as discussion around current limitations, aggravation/maintaining factors and goals.

Following all of this we usually start with a multi mode approach to treatment and management that can include manual therapy, ergonomic advice, self managed or guided exercise rehab and strength and conditioning.
