I have had a few clients present to the clinic this week with rotator cuff injuries.  Some of these have ranged from strains and tendonopathies to impingement.  The shoulder joint is very unique in design and the ball part of the arm (head of the humerus) is quite large compared to the glenohumeral fossa of the scapular that it sits on.  The design of the shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint) is such that a lot of movement occurs there, resulting in both ligaments and muscles required to passively and actively support and control the GH joint movement.  Many clients often present to the clinic with acute shoulder pain following either trauma or unaccustomed repetitive overuse.  Others ignore the signs that their body is telling them and attend the clinic with chronic shoulder pain.  I have included a great link from Physio Room that describes the anatomy of the shoulder joint and talks about common rotator cuff injuries.  To read more, please click here.
