Plyometric Push Up

In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a plyometric push up at our Melbourne City CBD clinic.  Plyometric push ups have been added into the clients program to focus more on power development.  Power development = speed Vs load.  By adding an explosive push up (horizontal press movement) into the clients program we are looking to build on his power with this movement by adding the need to create speed of movement to allow the body to rise off the ground against gravity.  We could have also looked to have identified the clients maximum power development in horizontal pressing (barbell bench press) using equipment like gymaware etc and measuring power production over 3-5 repetitions measuring at what weight does the client produce maximum power and then have him train this for speed, however I do not have this equipment at my facility and I also wanted them to be able to train power with this movement in any environment.
