When it comes to manual handling trolleys it is important that you adopt some good habits to ensure you look after your body.

Some of our top tips to good pushing manual handling technique include:

  • When holding the trolley, avoid outstretching of the arms and keep them relatively close to the body.
  • Use your legs when pushing the trolley to avoid upper body strain.
  • Avoid pushing the trolley with only one hand.
  • Ensure that you can see the area around you so that you can see the best and safest way to move the trolley.
  • Avoid using your legs to push the trolley.
  • Always face the trolley and keep the trunk in a neutral position.

When it comes to pulling the trolley, be sure to:

  • Use two hands.
  • Hold the trolley relatively close to you.
  • Avoid twisting the trolley and turning the body away from the trolley.
