Pallof Press Variations

The Pallof Press exercise involves the individual moving a band with resistance pulling across the body out in front of them, holding it and then returning.  There are many variations that you will see on this with regards to movement directions of the hands as well as body positions.  In the image below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a variety of positions (kneeling, split stance to standing) when performing this at Pilates on Bourke in the Docklands Melbourne.  The Pallof press is a great exercise for those wanting to work on developing the trunk and core strength.  The band typically has a desire to rotate the individual and it the role of the exercise is to have the individual resist this rotation (hence it being labelled as an anti rotation rotation).
