Mobilising and Preparing Your Wrists For Training

Recently I have had a number of clients attend Principle Four Osteopathy for either a wrist/hand injuries or mobility and loading issues with their wrists when performing a range of body weight exercises i.e. handstands, push ups, pikes as well as olympic lifts such as snatches and holding the bar in the rack position.

Once I have assessed them and it appears safe to start them on a mobility and loading program, I will often focus on prescribing some prehab / rehab warm up drills to perform prior to working out.  Often these include floor based loading drills through the fingers, wrists and hands.  The goal is to very slowly and gradually increase their tolerance to load through range of motion to help build strength through range of motion.  When we think about these principles, there are literally 100’s of ways we can load the fingers, hands and wrists in different start positions, angles etc with body weight load.

In the video below you will see a basic example of how I have a client loading their wrist in an extended position.

If you are currently suffering from upper limb issues relating to an injury, mobility or stability problem, be sure to book in and see one of the osteopaths at Principle Four Osteopathy who will be able to assess and provide advice on how to better manage your complaint and have you working towards achieving your training goals.
