Why I Love The Wall Handstand

The wall handstand is only a recent edition to my training program over the last 6-12 months and I have started incorporating this and other versions into my weekly program because I feel it is a great exercise to help with developing stability and strength through the shoulder girdle that is different to many other overhead pushing movements that often involve pushing the weight overhead away from you compared to the wall handstand which involves pushing yourself away from the floor.  I feel it allows me the opportunity to push away through the shoulders rather than always feeling like I am compressing my shoulders when pushing a weight overhead.  It has also been a great addition because it has encouraged me to focus on developing strength and stability as well as mobility through my shoulders in relation to my spine.

For those of you who are currently training in the gym regularly, I would urge you to try adding some handstands into your training program as it both fun and something different to add into ones upper body program.  One can add wall walk handstands in (walking your feet up the wall after starting from the push up position on the floor), static holds or handstand shoulder presses.  Before trying this, be sure to have a training partner nearby and some coaching on how to perform them.
