Load Your Chin Ups With Bands

The powerband is a great training tool to incorporate into your everyday strength and conditioning program because they can be used to either assist or resist with an exercise.  In the video below we see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy use a 41 inch Yellow Powerband from Ironedge around his waist/hips and attached to a kettlebell on the floor (the kettlebell must be heavy enough so that it cannot be lifted from the floor.  You can also use any other type of fixed attachment or weight).

Therefore as Heath moves into the upwards phase of the chin up, the exercise becomes more challenging as the band tension increases.  As he descends from the top position of the chin up, the band tension becomes less and therefore there is less additional resistance.  This is a great way to load up your chin up compared to using a weight belt with weight that adds a fixed resistance load.
