Lateral Lunge to Carioca – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see one of P4O clients performing a lateral lunge to carioca (step across the body).  This is a great exercise as it loads the lower body in the frontal plane with one leg stepping away from the body and then the same leg stepping across the body.  This certainly means all those muscles working around the hip i.e. glutes, adductors that work a lot in the frontal plane are challenged.  It also means all those other muscles that might work primarily in the sagittal or transverse plane are loaded in the frontal plane.   Start with bodyweight loading first and then progress to light dumbbells with the 8 – 15 rep range.
