Kettlebell Romanian Deadlift With Additional Grip Training – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating a kettlebell romanian deadlift (a great posterior chain exercise for the gluteal and hamstrings that involves the hip hinge movement pattern).  The kettlebell has been selected as the external load because one can easily keep this close to ones body and centre of gravity and allows for additional grip training through the use of the hand towel (holding the towel challenges one grip in a different way to simply holding the kettlebell).  When performing this exercise you may look to select a kettlebell weight that provides a suitable posterior chain stress load but also challenges your grip.  Be mindful to not go too heavy first up or you are likely to fatigue your gripping muscles sooner than the larger posterior chain muscles.   This has been added as an accessory movement exercise and was carried out for higher repetitions (10-15) for multiple sets.
