Ipsilateral Dumbbell Lunges

The lunge is a great training exercise to include in a lower body strength program because it requires a combination of upper body stability whilst requiring the individual to load the lower body and maintain balance.  Typically the lunge is performed with bodyweight or using dumbbells, however you can further ones need to stabilise the torso by performing the lunge movement with a weight on one side of the body.

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing an ipsilateral dumbbell reverse lunge at Elite Sports Performance in Spotswood Melbourne.

If you are looking to try this exercise, start with a smaller weight so that you can get a feel of the movement pattern and how the offset weight requires you to work through your torso.
